New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the 8th Pay Commission, which will be applicable from 1 January 2026. This commission will improve the salaries, allowances and pension of about 48.62 lakh central government employees and 67.85 lakh pensioners across the country.

The main objective of this commission is to revise salary and welfare policies in accordance with economic conditions, inflation and demands of employees. With a fitment factor of 3.00, there is a possibility of an increase of 34.1 percent in the minimum wage, which can reduce the minimum wage of Rs 21,600.

Dearness allowance (DA) is scheduled to reach 70 percent by the beginning of 2026 and will be merged in the original salary. The salary hike can range from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000, which will increase the total salary significantly. In addition, the minimum pension is expected to increase to Rs 20,500.

Salary Calculation Method:
Employees can calculate their new salary as follows:

  1. Identify the current basic salary as per the 7th Pay Commission.
  2. New Aadhaar Pay = Current Aadhaar Pay × 3.00 (Fitment Factor).
  3. DA = new basic salary × 0.50.
  4. House Rent Allowance (HRA) = New original salary × (metro: 27%, tier-2: 20%, tier-3: 10%).
  5. Transport Allowance (TA) = according to city and post.
  6. Total salary = new salary + DA + HRA + TA – Cut.
