New Delhi: If you are thinking of buying or investing in jewelery this wedding season, then this news from the bullion market can be heavy on your pocket. There is a tremendous increase in the prices of gold and silver in the country on a weekly basis. Within the last one week alone, 24 carat gold has become costlier by ₹2,860, while silver prices have jumped by a whopping ₹5,000. Amidst the ongoing turmoil in the international market and tensions in the Middle East, the prices of precious metals are skyrocketing in the Indian markets.
Record breaking jump of gold on weekly basis
Gold once again seems to be becoming a safe haven for investors. According to the data, while 24 carat gold has increased by ₹ 2,860 in a week, the price of 22 carat gold has also increased by ₹ 2,600. Today, on April 5, 2026, the price of 24 carat gold in the capital Delhi has reached ₹ 1,51,080 per 10 grams. Although, stability was seen in the market on Friday, April 3, but this surge on weekly basis is scary. Even in the global market, spot gold is trading at a high level of $4,591.52 per ounce.
What is the gold rate today in big cities of the country?
Slight differences are being seen in gold prices in different cities of India due to tax and local demand. Gold is being sold the most expensive in Chennai, where the price of 24 carat has crossed ₹ 1.52 lakh. You can see the latest prices in your city in the chart below:

Silver also went out of control, touched ₹2.50 lakh per kg
Along with gold, the shine of silver is also surprising the investors. On a weekly basis, silver has become costlier by ₹ 5,000 and today on April 5, it reached the level of ₹ 2,50,000 per kg. Recall that in January this year, silver had crossed the historical figure of ₹ 4 lakh, after which it had declined, but now it is again on the bullish path. The spot price of silver in the international market is running at $69.57 per ounce.
Why are prices increasing? What is the condition of the global market?
According to market experts and leading institutions like Morgan Stanley, despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, there are reasons for fluctuations in gold prices. Disruptions in the global supply chain and the strength and weakness of the dollar are directly impacting these metals. Increase in demand due to wedding season in India is also supporting the prices. Additionally, the recent increase in CNG prices by ₹2.50/kg by Torrent Gas has also increased inflation concerns, leading to demand for gold as a safe haven investment.
