These prices are decided on the basis of the current situation of crude oil in the international market and daily changes in the exchange rate of rupee against dollar.

Today i.e. Wednesday (27 May 2026) New rates of petrol and diesel have been released for all the major districts of Uttarakhand. There is a lot of fluctuation in prices in different hilly and plain areas of Devbhoomi.

Due to geographical conditions and local transportation costs (Freight Charges), fuel is always a little costlier in the hilly districts (like Pithoragarh and Chamoli) than in the plain districts of Uttarakhand (like Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar). Why did prices rise in the month of May?

If you are wondering why petrol and diesel suddenly became so expensive in the last few days, then there are big reasons behind it at the global and domestic level. Within the current month i.e. May 2026, oil companies have given three major shocks:

• First of all 15th May The prices of both petrol and diesel were increased by a whopping ₹3 per liter straight away.

• right after 23 may and then 25 may Fuel rates were also increased again.

Clarifying the situation on this continuous price increase, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had already said that the biggest reason for this is the sharp rise in the prices of crude oil in the international market. Globally, crude oil prices, which were earlier hovering around $64-65 per barrel, had increased to around $115 per barrel due to the tense global situation.

Huge loss to oil companies:

According to the Petroleum Minister, due to the increasing difference (under recovery) between cost and selling price, the country’s government oil companies are losing almost Rs. Huge loss of Rs 1,000 crore Have to lift. This total under-recovery is estimated to reach around Rs 1.98 lakh crore, while the loss for just one quarter is around Rs 1 lakh crore. He had also underlined that despite the global recession and inflation, India has been the only major country in the world which had not allowed fuel prices to increase for a long time from 2022 onwards to provide relief to its citizens.
