Food is real, complaints are fake, this is how people are cheating with food delivery apps with the help of AI:

One such new case is related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), where people are using AI to get free food from food delivery apps. You may be surprised to hear this, but it is true.

How is this whole game happening?

This fraud is being done so cleverly that it is difficult to catch. Fraudsters first order food from any food delivery app like Zomato, Swiggy or DoorDash. When the food arrives at home, they take a photo of it. After this the real game begins.

They upload this photo to an AI image generator tool, such as ChatGPT, and give it commands like “make this food look raw” or “make this food look raw” or “make this food look like it has hair or a worm in it.” In a few seconds, AI edits the original photo and creates a fake photo in which the food actually looks spoiled or raw.

After this, they send this fake photo to the app’s customer care along with a complaint. When the delivery company receives such a real-looking photo of the spoiled food, in most of the cases they immediately refund the full amount to keep the customer happy. In this way the fraudster gets free food and also gets his money back.

Restaurants and delivery partners are facing huge losses

Food Delivery Scam: The biggest loss from this type of fraud is for small restaurants and delivery partners who work hard. When a refund is made, the restaurant often has to bear the cost of it. Besides, their rating is also bad, which adversely affects their business.

Companies have also become alert

Although this fraud is still new, food delivery companies are preparing to deal with it. Now they are also trying to identify such fraudulent patterns with the help of AI. Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has also expressed concern that misleading pictures created by AI break the trust of customers and has asked to remove such pictures from his platform.

This case is a huge reminder of how easily misuse of AI can affect our everyday lives. As a customer, we should be honest and not be a part of any such fraud, as it impacts the entire industry.
