News India Live, Digital Desk: There is a stir these days in Dalmandi, one of the busiest areas of the religious city of Kashi. Giving impetus to the road widening campaign, the team of District Administration and Municipal Corporation has started putting ‘red marks’ on illegal constructions and structures built on Nazul land. The biggest echo of this action is being heard regarding ‘Langra Hafiz Mosque’, some part of which has come under the red mark due to being on Nazul land.
Nazul’s land and administration’s strict stance
Measurements by Varanasi Development Authority and Revenue Team have revealed that part of many shops and houses on Dalmandi Road have been built by occupying government (Nazul) land. The administration says that due to the daily traffic jams and narrow streets in Dalmandi, it becomes difficult for even an ambulance to reach. For a permanent solution to this problem, a master plan for widening the road has been prepared. The officials have made it clear that whatever encroachment comes in the way of widening, it will be removed.
Langra Hafiz Mosque: Stuck between faith and rules
After the red mark was put on the historical Langra Hafiz Mosque of Dalmandi, tense peace is being observed in the area. The Mosque Committee and the local people argue that this structure is very old, while the maps of the Revenue Department are telling a different story. The red mark means that the administration can soon start the action of demolishing these parts. Local businessmen and Muslim religious leaders have appealed to the administration to hold talks and find a middle path, so that both faith and development are respected.
Anger among traders: clouds of crisis over business
Dalmandi is a major business center of Varanasi, where the turnover is worth crores. The business class is quite worried about the news of shop fronts being demolished for road widening. They say that they have been doing business here for a long time and such a sudden action will threaten their livelihood. The police administration has increased patrolling in the area in view of security and heavy force has been deployed to prevent any kind of protest. The coming few days are going to be very important for the future of Dalmandi and the strictness of the administration.
