News India Live, Digital Desk: The great economist and strategist Acharya Chanakya has told many deep secrets of a happy and successful life in his policy book ‘Chanakya Niti’. Chanakya believed that any object or behavior in the world ‘Excess’ It is always harmful. He has explained through a famous verse that just as excessive beauty led to the abduction of Sita and excessive arrogance led to the end of Ravana, similarly there are five things in the life of a common man whose excess can bring him down from his throne.
1. Egoism of beauty and looks
According to Acharya Chanakya, looking beautiful is a matter of good fortune, but being proud of your beauty is sheer foolishness. The extreme beauty of Mother Sita was the reason for her kidnapping. Chanakya says that the person who considers others inferior due to pride in his appearance is certain to fall because beauty fades with time, but behavior and qualities always remain alive.
2. Pride of knowledge and wealth
Man’s most deadly enemy is his own ego. Whether you have immense wealth or unlimited knowledge – if pride sets in, destruction begins. The biggest example of this is Ravana, who despite being a great scholar and a powerful king, was killed only because of his ego. The person who abandons humility even after reaching the pinnacle of success is rejected by the society.
3. Donating beyond capacity
Giving charity is an act of virtue, but Chanakya has set limits for this also. Citing the example of King Bali, he says that excessive charity had put him too in trouble. If a person donates more than he can afford, forgetting his financial condition and the needs of his family, he pushes himself into the trap of poverty. Donation should always be done keeping in mind one’s limitations and future needs.
4. Talking excessively (being talkative)
Often a person who talks too much tells secret information or bitter words in the flow of his words, which are used as weapons against him in the future. According to Chanakya, speaking unnecessarily and excessively is inviting trouble. An intelligent person is one who knows when, where and how much to speak. Understanding the power of silence is essential for success.
5. Superstition or excessive trust
Trusting anyone excessively can become a major reason for your downfall. Chanakya Niti says that being too straight is also harmful, because straight trees are the first to be cut in the forest. Be it relationships or business, blindly trusting anyone can make you a victim of deception. Using discretion and assessing every situation is the only way to stay safe.
