The Election Commission is all set to release the ‘Final Voter List’ of the state today. With the publication of this list, it will become clear how many and which voters will decide the future of power in Bengal in the upcoming elections. In view of the complaints of irregularities and fake names in the voter list, the administration has made tight security arrangements across the state and has issued a high alert in all the districts.

Surgical strike on fake voters: Election Commission strict

For some time, there was a political turmoil in Bengal regarding the voter list. The opposition had alleged inclusion of names of Rohingyas and infiltrators in the voter list on a large scale. According to sources, before releasing the final list, the Election Commission has conducted an intensive investigation campaign, in which lakhs of suspicious names have been removed. The aim of the Commission is to prepare an impeccable list which can ensure fair and transparent voting. A huge jump in the number of new youth and women voters is expected in the list to be released today.

How to check your name? Administration made special arrangements

The Election Commission has kept both online and offline options open for the convenience of voters. Citizens can check their name in the list by visiting the ‘National Voters’ Service Portal’ (NVSP) or by visiting the Booth Level Officer (BLO). If the name of any eligible voter is missing from the list or requires any correction, special counters have been created for that also. District Magistrates have been instructed to maintain peace in sensitive areas so that no violence or dispute arises during the publication of the list.

There will be chaos in Bengal politics

Soon after the release of the voter list, the tug of war between the major political parties of the state—TMC, BJP and the Left-Congress alliance—is going to intensify. While the ruling party will finalize its strategy on the basis of the new list, the opposition can review the details of the list and register its objections with the Commission. This voter list will not only determine electoral participation but will also indicate how much the demographic equations of the state have changed over the years.
