Elderly couple victims of cyber fraud committed suicide, Rs 50 lakh robbed in the name of digital arrest

The risk of cyber fraud is becoming serious every day. Along with the progress of technology, the methods of thugs have also become hi-tech. A very painful incident came to light on 29 March in Belagavi district of Karnataka, which shook the entire country. Here, an elderly couple was taken by cyber thugs as a crime branch and a telecom officer, threatened them of “digital arrest” and cheated them for Rs 50 lakh. Troubled by this, both of them committed suicide.

83 -year -old Diango Nazrat, a resident of Belagavi, and his 79 -year -old wife Playvana Nazrat received a video call. On the call, there was a person named Sumit Birra, who described himself as an officer of Delhi’s Telecom Department and Crime Branch. He alleged that a fake SIM card has been issued in the name of the couple and is being used in traitorous activities.

The call was then transferred to a person named “Anil Yadav”, who described himself as a senior officer of the crime branch. He threatened that if the couple did not cooperate in the investigation, they would be filed by a criminal case.

Digital arrest and cheating game

The thugs mentally scared the elderly couple so much that they accepted it as true. In the name of alleged “digital arrest”, the couple were asked for bank details, property information and password. In nervousness and embarrassment, Diango Nazrat transferred a total of Rs 50 lakh to the account of thugs.

But the thugs did not stop here. He continued to demand more money, and kept threatening. The couple, who broke from this psychological torture, eventually decided to commit suicide.

Suicide note left before suicide, police found evidence

When the police got information about death from the couple’s house, they immediately reached the spot. A suicide note was found in the search of the house in which the entire incident was revealed. The note explained how they faced cheating and threats. Mobile phones and bank transactions have also found strong evidence of cyber fraud.

Couple’s background: Retired from Maharashtra Secretariat

According to the information, Diango and Playvana Nazrat were working in the Maharashtra Secretariat and were living a quiet life in Belagavi after retiring. He had no children and did not even have close relatives. He did not share his troubles with anyone due to loneliness and fear.

Police investigation continues, case registered against accused

On the basis of suicide note, the police have registered a case against Sumit Birra and Anil Yadav under various sections of IPC (provoking suicide) and various sections of the IT Act. Police is investigating the bank accounts and call records. The total amount looted by the thugs is being treated.

2. No officer talks about digital arrest. This is a false excuse.
