Sujata R Karthikeyan, senior IAS officer of Odisha cadre, has suddenly taken voluntary retirement (VRS). Karthikeyan, the BJD president is the wife of VK Pandian, a former close aide of Naveen Patnaik. Now they have got the permission of VRS. Official sources gave this information on Saturday.
Kartikeyan, a 2000 batch Odisha cadre officer, was a special secretary in the Finance Department.
According to the information, Bhupinder Pal Singh, the Under Secretary of the Ministry of Personnel, Ministry of Public Grievance and Pension, wrote a letter to Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, informing about the approval of Kartikeyan’s voluntary retirement (VRS).
BJD lost the election in 2024.
The letter stated, “… It is informed that the Central Government has given a discount in the mandatory notice period of three months under Rule 16 (2A) of FDCRB, FDCR 9 (FDCR), for voluntary retirement from 13.03.2025 for voluntary retirement from IAS (RR -2000). It is requested to issue ‘notification’.
The Election Commission ordered Karthikeyan to be transferred to a department where he will not meet the public.
Kartikeyan, a 2000 batch Odisha cadre officer, was a special secretary in the Finance Department. Sources said that he had applied for voluntary retirement for two personal reasons. Her husband VK Pandian, a bureaucrat -turned -politician, also took voluntary retirement in October 2023 and joined the Patnaik -led Biju Janata Dal (BJD). However, Pandian left active politics after the BJD’s defeat in the assembly elections last year.
In May 2024, the Election Commission ordered Karthikeyan to be transferred to a department where she would not meet the public. At the same time, after losing the BJD elections in 2024, Karthikeyan went on a six -month leave. Last year, he was discharged till 26 November, but the BJP government of the state rejected his application to extend the holiday.
