News India Live, Digital Desk: If you often take long distance ‘sleeper buses’ for work or to go home, then this news is very important for you. We all know that sleeping in a sleeper bus is very comfortable during night travel, but in terms of safety, there were some shortcomings in it which were being ignored till now.
Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has taken an important decision keeping in mind the safety of passengers’ lives. Now the ‘driver cabin’ and ‘sliders’ (glass or wooden doors) installed on the sleeping seats will be removed from the sleeper buses running on the roads of UP.
Let us understand why this decision was needed and how it will benefit you.
Why is the driver cabin being removed? (Safety First)
Often a separate cabin is made for the driver in sleeper buses. It looks organized, but in case of an emergency, such as a fire in the bus or a sudden accident, this cabin becomes a major hindrance. Due to the cabin, the passengers sitting at the back cannot see the way ahead and are not able to get out in time. The government believes that having ‘open layout’ inside the bus will reduce stampede in case of any untoward incident and people will be able to get out easily.
Reason for removing ‘slider’ from sleeper seat
You must have noticed that for privacy, many buses have sliding doors in front of the sleeping seats (sleeping pods). People like it a lot, but these sliders can also prove fatal. If the bus is out of balance or the glass is broken, these sliders can jam and the passenger can become trapped inside his or her seat. According to the new guidelines, for privacy, instead of doors, ‘fire resistant’ curtains can now be used, which can be removed immediately in case of any danger.
Preparation to prevent night accidents
The UP government has taken this decision keeping in mind the many tragic bus accidents that have taken place in recent years. According to reports, the rescue operation is delayed due to the cabin and closed seats. Now there will be adequate lighting inside the bus and the passage of air will be kept clean.
What do bus owners have to do?
Bus operators and owners have been given clear instructions to ensure these changes before renewing their buses. If the cabin and slider are found to be present in the bus as per the rules, then it can be declared ‘unfit’.
while going…
Your ‘safety’ is more important than privacy while travelling. This step of the government may seem a bit strange to you initially, but these small changes have been made only to avoid major accidents. It is expected that this effort of the UP government will make bus travel more reliable and safe on the roads of Uttar Pradesh.
Next time you book a bus ticket, keep these new rules in mind!
