New Delhi: Now the real ‘severe cold’ period is about to begin in the country’s capital Delhi and NCR. On one hand, the mercury is continuously falling, while on the other hand, the poison dissolved in the air is showing no signs of decreasing. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that people may have to face the triple blow of cold, dense fog and pollution for the next one week.

Today, the morning of 9th December, Delhi-NCR started with a cocktail of cold, smog and pollution. The air quality in most areas was recorded in the ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ category.

The havoc of pollution is not stopping (morning AQI)

Despite increasing cold, the pollution level in Delhi and surrounding cities remains worrying.

  • Delhi: 278 (bad)
  • Ghaziabad: 276 (bad)
  • Noida: 255 (bad)
  • Greater Noida: 252 (bad)
  • Gurgaon: 221 (bad)

In some northern areas of Delhi, the AQI level even crossed 300, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category.

There will be shivering cold this week, mercury will reach up to 6 degrees!

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there may be a huge drop in temperature in Delhi-NCR, due to which the chill will increase significantly.

  • The minimum temperature is likely to drop to 6 degrees Celsius on December 11 and 12.
  • There will be dense fog and mist in the morning from 9 to 14 December.
  • Icy winds blowing at a speed of 5 to 25 kilometers per hour during the day will further increase the cold.

How will the weather be next week?

Meteorologists say that the people of Delhi-NCR will have to face mixed weather with cold, strong wind, fog and light clouds throughout the next week. On December 13, a new western disturbance is becoming active over the mountains, which will not have much direct impact on Delhi, but after this a slight increase in temperature can be seen.

Overall, the coming week may be difficult for the people of Delhi. In such a situation, it is advised to go out of the house only wearing warm clothes and use a mask to avoid pollution, especially in the morning.
