This time he has raised questions about PM Modi’s silence on the claim of former US President Donald Trump, in which Trump credited himself for the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Jairam Ramesh said in his statement that Donald Trump has taken credit for the Indo-Pakistan ceasefire 26 times in a short period of only 78 days. He specifically mentioned Trump’s rally in North Carolina in June 2021, where Trump claimed, “I said to Prime Minister Modi that father (Father), we don’t want to fight anymore.”
Ramesh emphasized that Trump claimed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan on the Line of Control (LOC) in February 2021. He raised the question that when Trump was constantly making such ‘false’ claims, why did Prime Minister Modi keep silence on it and why not deny it?
Taking a dig at PM Modi’s foreign policy, the Congress leader said that while the BJP shows a very aggressive attitude on national security and Pakistan issues on the one hand, why PM Modi becomes “weak” or “dabu” in protecting India’s interests on the international stage and refuting such claims. Ramesh taunted that the person who took credit for taking a big international diplomatic step for India 26 times is beyond the silence of PM Modi.
Increasing his attack further, Jairam Ramesh also mentioned ‘Operation Sindoor’, which was in a different context to question the BJP’s priorities. Overall, the Congress has tried to surround the government over Trump’s claim and PM Modi’s silence, especially when India is extremely sensitive about its security and foreign policy.
