News India Live, Digital Desk: We all know that whenever it comes to Haridwar, the picture of the sacred banks of Mother Ganga and the grand evening aarti comes to our mind. Every year lakhs and crores of people come here to bow their heads with reverence. but year Haridwar Ardh Kumbh Mela to be held in 2027 A demand has arisen before, which has sparked a new debate in social media and political circles.
The leaders of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have put forward a strict proposal that A ban should be imposed on non-Hindus from bathing or visiting the holy Ganga ghats of Haridwar.
After all, why did VHP raise this demand?
It is often seen that in big events like Kumbh, the question of security and purity is at the top. VHP leaders argue that Haridwar and especially ghats like ‘Har Ki Paidi’ have their own religious significance. According to him, for those who do not believe in Hindu religion or Sanatan system, this place becomes just a tourist destination, which can hurt the faith there.
The leaders have also emphasized that there is a huge crowd during the Ardh Kumbh Mela. In such situations, many times there are reports of ‘conspiracies’ or mutual disputes. To strengthen this security cycle and maintain the eternal dignity of the Ghats, it has been proposed that non-Sanatani people should be kept away from the Ghats.
Old feud and current situation
This is not the first time that something like this has been said. Ever since areas like Haridwar and Rishikesh were declared as ‘pilgrimage areas’, there has been a demand to make strict rules regarding food and business there. In recent times, many saints and Hindu organizations have openly said that if someone comes to the banks of Ganga not with reverence but for the purpose of ‘roaming’ and spoils the environment there, then he should not be allowed.
What will be its effect?
For the administration, this is no less than a ‘religious crisis’. On one hand, it is important to respect religious sentiments, on the other hand, it is also the responsibility of the government to ensure tourism and everyone’s safety. If the administration accepts this demand of VHP in any form, then it may have to resort to heavy police deployment and identification checks during the Ardh Kumbh Mela.
In our view…
Ardh Kumbh is not an ordinary event, but a matter related to the souls of crores of people. While security is important, maintaining religious peace should also be the priority of the administration. Is banning someone’s faith the right solution or are more stringent rules needed? This is a question that is going to become even more heated in the coming months.
How do you see this demand? Do you think such restrictions are necessary to maintain the dignity of pilgrimage sites like Haridwar? Please tell us your opinion in the comments.
