Kokrajhar (Assam), 30 November (HIST). A district level consultation meeting on the implementation of schemes related to women was organized today at DC Conference Hall, Kokrajhar.
Chairing the meeting, Commissioner (DC) Masanda Pertin highlighted the changing forms of gender-based violence, which now extends to subtle forms such as cyberbullying, photo morphing and harassment of women on social media. He stressed the need to identify these microaggressions and address them proactively.
Along with this, the DC underlined the importance of strong legal safeguards, government initiatives and economic and educational support systems to empower women and bring them out of adverse situations.
Key discussions during the meeting included the Domestic Violence Act, POSH Act, She-Box Portal, ICC and legal provisions under BNS, BNSS and BSA aimed at promoting the welfare of women. Additionally, initiatives under National Gender Campaign 3.0, Gender Resource Center and Mission Shakti schemes were also discussed. The meeting concluded with all participants taking a pledge to work collectively to end gender-based violence.
The event was organized by “Sankalp: Hub for Empowerment of Women, Kokrajhar”, which is part of the “ongoing 16 days of activism to end gender-based violence” (November 25 to December 10, 2024).
Prominent participants on the occasion included ADC Kavita Deka, representatives of Home Department, SSA, NHM, PNRD, ASRLM, CDPO, Shakti Sadan and members of various civil society organizations.
