H-1B visa crisis: America’s move to cut H-1B visas to appoint professionals from other countries has created an uproar worldwide. However, the US-based Indian IT companies, which have the largest stake in H-1B visas, are not worried about it. The biggest reason for this is that less than half of the top 5 Indian IT companies are from outside the US. In such a situation, Indian companies will not have to depend much on hiring professionals from other countries. In case of large emergency, Indian companies can transfer their work to workplaces in India.
TCS and Infosys get 20 % H-1B visas.
According to reports, TCS and Infosys stake in the total H-1B visas given in the US in 2024. In addition, companies like HCL, Tech Mahindra and Wipro are also prominent employers in the US, but they are not as much dependent on foreign professionals in their main markets of North America.
America’s largest software exporting company TCS receives almost half its revenue from North America. Whereas more than half of the US workforce is recruited locally. TCS MD Kritivasan says he is not concerned about the decline trend in H-1B visa, as his company’s dependence on him has been decreasing in the last few years and increasing US domestic stake in recruitment.
Why uproar over H-1B visa?
H-1B allows visa companies to appoint foreign professionals specializing in areas such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the US. There has been still uncertainty about H-1B visas since Donald Trump’s announcement of promoting domestic employment after the US assumed power. Since his previous term, Trump has taken a tough stand against immigration.
