The air quality in many areas of the city remains in the ‘very poor’ category, due to which people are facing problems like breathing difficulties and eye irritation. Today the average air quality index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded at 273, which is harmful for health.
How poisonous is the air?
Pollution levels are different in different parts of Delhi. The AQI near Anand Vihar and Akshardham temple reached 392, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category. Similarly, AQI 347 was also recorded around ITO, where a thick layer of haze was clearly visible in the morning.
However, the air has improved slightly in some areas. The AQI in areas like Lodhi Road and Tilak Marg stood at 153, which is considered in the ‘moderate’ category. The AQI on the duty path was also recorded at 278, which falls in the ‘poor’ category.
The condition of Noida-Ghaziabad is also bad.
Not only Delhi, other cities of NCR are also in bad condition due to pollution. AQI was recorded at 297 in Noida, 317 in Ghaziabad and 254 in Greater Noida. At the same time, the air of Gurgaon was slightly better, where AQI was 220.
Drizzle gave slight relief
The change in weather in the last 24 hours had given some relief to the people of Delhi-NCR. Light drizzle and strong winds caused by the western disturbance had reduced the AQI from 400 level to around 300. The winds blowing at a speed of about 14 kilometers per hour also made people feel slight cold.
What does the weather department’s forecast say?
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), cold is going to increase in Delhi-NCR in the coming days. A major drop in maximum and minimum temperatures may be seen between 6th and 10th November. The maximum temperature may drop to 27 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to reach 13 degrees, indicating a severe cold.
However, there is no hope of getting relief from pollution soon. The Meteorological Department says that unless there is heavy rain or the wind speed does not increase, Delhi’s air will remain poisonous. There is also a possibility of light fog and mist in the morning.
