There is a relief news for lakhs of working people and general public traveling daily in Delhi and its surrounding NCR cities. To reduce the traffic pressure in Delhi-NCR and make public transport more accessible, the work of Phase 4 of Delhi Metro is progressing very fast. According to officials, there is full hope of starting the commercial operation of trains on three very important corridors of Delhi Metro by the end of 2026.
With the commencement of these new routes, approximately 36 kilometers There will be an increase in new lines. This includes the extension of the Magenta Line and the brand new Golden Line, which will make travel between East, West and South Delhi much easier.
On which routes are the trains going to start?
The three major parts which are set to be opened to the general public by the end of this year are as follows:
-
Magenta Line Extension (Janakpuri West – RK Ashram Marg): Work on two different parts of this route is in the final stages. The first part is from Krishna Park Extension to Deepali Chowk, and the second part will connect Majlis Park directly to RK Ashram Marg. With its commencement, the connectivity between outer and central Delhi will improve significantly.
-
Golden Line (Aerocity – Tughlaqabad Corridor): This route will be no less than a boon for the people commuting from South Delhi and Faridabad. After its commencement, people of Faridabad and South Delhi will be freed from the hassle of changing metro again and again to reach IGI Airport.
Delhi Metro Phase 4: Complete details of upcoming and under construction corridors
Some routes under Phase IV of the Metro have already been opened to the public (such as the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park stretch in January 2025 and the Majlis Park-Maujpur and Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretches being inaugurated by PM Modi on March 8, 2026).
Complete details of remaining and under construction routes can be seen in the table below:
Why was there a delay in starting the work?
For your information, let us tell you that on March 7, 2019, the Union Cabinet had approved Majlis Park-Maujpur, Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg and Aerocity-Tughlakabad lines under the fourth phase of Metro. After this, recently on March 13, 2024, the government also gave its green signal to two more new routes (Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block and Indralok-Indraprastha).
After initially getting approval from the Centre, due to some delay in administrative approvals by the Delhi Government and the Corona pandemic (Covid-19) that followed soon after, the work at the ground level could not start on time. But now all the hurdles have been removed and DMRC is working day and night to complete this project within the time limit.
Big benefits for passengers
After these three corridors become fully active, not only will precious time of passengers be saved but the load of vehicles on the roads will also be significantly reduced. Especially with the operationalization of the Golden Line, the traffic pressure on the busiest routes of Delhi will be reduced and people will get a high-speed connectivity directly to the airport. Similarly, the new extension of the Magenta Line will directly connect remote areas of East and West Delhi, providing relief to working people from long daily commutes.
