Today’s weather 12 January 2026, New Delhi: The entire North India is currently in the grip of bone-chilling cold. From Delhi to Rajasthan and from Punjab to Kashmir, the mercury is falling and the ‘deadly’ cold wave has made people’s lives miserable. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of severe cold for the next few days.
Delhi: This season’s record broken, mercury 2.9 degrees!
The capital Delhi shivered with cold this morning.
- This is the first and most severe cold wave of this season.
- The minimum temperature in Ayanagar area was recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest so far this season.
- The mercury also dropped to 4.8 degrees in Safdarjung, the main center for reporting the weather of Delhi.
- IMD has issued ‘Yellow Alert’ for the next two days, which means the cold havoc will continue.
Rajasthan: Many cities became ‘freezer’, mercury dropped to -2 degrees
Cold has broken all records in Rajasthan.
- The minimum temperature was recorded at minus 2 degrees (-2°C) in Pratapgarh.
- In Barmer also the mercury reached minus 1 degree.
- The temperature in cities like Churu, Sikar and Jhunjhunu also remained around 2 degrees.
Punjab-Haryana: Troubled by cold
Punjab and Haryana are also in the grip of severe cold.
- Bathinda in Punjab was the coldest with 1.6 degrees.
- The temperature of Hisar in Haryana was recorded at 2.2 degrees.
- Dense fog in the morning has also put brakes on the speed of vehicles on the roads.
Kashmir: Victim of ‘Chilla-e-Kalan’, Dal Lake freezes
Currently, ‘Chilla-e-Kalan’ i.e. the most severe cold period of 40 days is going on in Kashmir.
- The cold is so severe that many parts of the famous Dal Lake have frozen.
- The night temperature in Shopian, the coldest area of the valley, has fallen to -8.6 degrees Celsius.
