Mumbai: India’s largest IT service company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has issued a big and strict decree for its employees. The company has made it mandatory for all employees to come to office 5 days a week, ending its hybrid work model. Disciplinary action will be taken against employees who do not follow this rule, and this new rule is expected to have the most impact on American employees.

This change has come into force with immediate effect, as stated in the HR email sent to employees. Earlier, TCS allowed to come to the office for three days, but now the company is moving towards bringing back its pre-mahamari work culture. According to sources, the company believes that this step is necessary to maintain face-to-face dialogue, cooperation and culture of the organization.

Employees most affected in America
According to reports, this instruction is particularly important for TCS with more than 45,000 employees in the US. The company has its U.S. All the employees of the branches have been asked to come to the office throughout the week with immediate effect. Exceptions will be only for employees who are working on client sites or who have already received special permission to work from home.

Action on not accepting rules
This new rule is in line with the previous steps of TCS where the company linked the office appearance to promotion, salary hike and variable pay (variable salary) (8, 9, 13). Employees who will not contribute to the company’s efforts to increase the association with the new workplace, direct action will be taken on them. The first company gave everyone an ultimatum to return to office by March 2024 (2, 8). Now, it is clear from this new decree that the company is bent on almost finishing the remote work model.

However, it is not clear how strictly the company will implement this new 5-day function policy on employees in India, especially after reports in which the employees were concerned with issues such as ‘Moonlighting’ (working for two companies together) (1, 7). However, the company has repeatedly emphasized that being present in the office, making relationships with colleagues, learning culture and personal development.
