Washington/New Delhi. Former US President Barack Obama has made a sharp attack on the declining level of American politics during the current Donald Trump administration and his second term. Describing the current functioning of the White House and Trump’s behavior as a ‘farce’, Obama said that those who expected decency and respect in politics are now getting nothing but disappointment and ‘shamelessness’.

Obama used strong words while speaking on Brian Tyler Cohen’s popular podcast ‘No Lie’. He recently questioned the ethics of the Trump administration, referring to the controversial and doctored video involving former First Lady Michelle Obama (Miley Obama referenced in the article, correction: Michelle Obama).

Obama said:

“Today’s politics has become like a circus played on the Internet and on television. It is a kind of ‘clown show’. The saddest thing is that those who once believed that the presidency should be accompanied by restraint and respect, no longer have any shame left.”

Warning on ‘domestic terrorism’ and politics of hate

When Obama was questioned during the podcast about his comments regarding the immigration campaign and civilian deaths as “domestic terrorism”, he called it “distraction diplomacy.” He regretted that the present administration is engaged in blurring established laws and democratic rules instead of doing constructive work.

Advice to Democrats: “Avoid destructive politics”

Obama not only criticized the Republican Party, but also gave a serious warning to his own party (Democrats). He said it could be dangerous to counter the Republican Party’s “burn and destroy” attitude in the same language.

Defense of Truth: Obama said, “I don’t want us to become as careless about the truth as the other side is. If we fight like they do, we will lose the very democracy we are fighting for.”

Abuse of power: Giving the example of his tenure, he said that America had the ability to misuse military and financial power, but we never did so to maintain the dignity of democracy.
