The anger of Baloch citizens against the Pakistani Army and intelligence agency ISI in Balochistan has once again reached its peak. Prominent Baloch human rights activist Sammi Deen Baloch has written a heart-wrenching open letter against the ruthless abductions, enforced disappearances and ‘kill and dump’ policy being carried out by the Pakistani Army to suppress the voice of Baloch rebellion and independence.
Through this letter, he has directly asked tough questions to the Pakistan government and army regarding his missing father. Sammi Deen Baloch has written in her emotional and hair-raising appeal, “If my father is alive then return him back and if you have killed him, then give us his death certificate instead of tormenting us further.” This open letter has once again exposed the human rights violations and Baloch genocide taking place in Pakistan at the international level.
17 years of endless wait: The harrowing story of the disappearance of Dr. Deen Mohammad Baloch
Baloch activist Sammi Deen Baloch released this open letter on Sunday (28 June 2026) on the 17th anniversary of the forced abduction and disappearance of her father Dr. Deen Mohammad Baloch. In her touching appeal, Sammi Deen wrote that after this uncertainty that has been going on for the last two decades, her family now has the full legal and human right to know the condition of their father.
Dr. Deen Mohammad Baloch, a government doctor by profession, was forcibly detained by Pakistani security agencies and army officers from Khuzdar district of Balochistan on the night of 28 June 2009. Since that dark night till today, i.e. in the last 17 years, there is no trace of Dr. Deen Mohammad. His family is still living in the hope of his safe return.
‘Petitions, sticks and tear gas became my legacy’
Describing the deep sorrow and pain of her father’s disappearance, Sammi Deen says that she grew up not knowing whether her father was alive or dead. He wrote in his letter, “In my childhood, I was given only disappearance. Whenever I asked about my father in school or society, I got only denial, rebuke and insult. My father was taken away by this cruel state and the punishment of waiting for him endlessly was given to me like a life imprisonment.”
He further wrote, “The rest of the children in the world grow up holding their father’s finger and with beautiful memories of him. But since childhood, I have inherited the legacy of court petitions, police batons, tear gas shells and roaming on the streets with my father’s posters in my hands. My father was not a government file or a mere rumour. He was Dr. Deen Mohammed – a doctor, a responsible husband and a very loving father, who was taken away from us forever.”
Resounding voice on international stage: German organization surrounds Pakistan
Sammi Deen Baloch is today the General Secretary of ‘Voice for Baloch Missing Persons’ (VBMP), the main organization fighting against the atrocities of Pakistani Army in Balochistan. She has become the biggest international face of the fight for justice for thousands of youth and civilians who were forcibly disappeared in Balochistan. Frustrated by his peaceful movement and the petitions being filed in the courts, the Pakistani army and police have arrested him several times and sent him to jail and have also carried out violent attacks on him.
After this open letter of Sammi Deen, international human rights organizations have also opened a front against the Pakistan government. The prestigious international human rights organization ‘Front Line Defenders’ based in Dublin, Germany has reiterated its full support towards Sammi Deen Baloch. The organization has demanded the Pakistani rulers to immediately and officially disclose the whereabouts of Dr. Deen Mohammad Baloch and conduct an independent and impartial investigation into all the cases of enforced disappearances going on in Balochistan.
Pakistani Army’s brash attitude: Rejects the allegations outright
Like always, this time too the Pakistani government and its army have completely rejected these serious allegations of political persecution and disappearance of Baloch civilians. Pakistani Army claims that the action being taken against Baloch activists is completely within the ambit of the law of the country.
The army brazenly issued a statement saying that it had no official policy of disappearing civilians. Pakistani officials claim that most of the people who are reported missing have either joined banned extremist and terrorist organizations, or have gone underground to escape the law, or have left the country of their own free will and gone abroad. But Baloch human rights organizations say that this statement of the army is just a lame excuse to hide their bloody crimes.
