Think, you wake up one morning and know that the government has stopped the purchase and sale of all the land in your village with immediate effect. No one can buy land, nor sell!
This is not the story of a film, but has become a reality of 30 villages in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh. The District Magistrate (DM) here has completely banned every kind of purchase and sale of land in these 30 villages on the banks of the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, which has directly affected about 18,532 farmers.
So why did the government do this ‘lockout’?
You must be thinking that this is wrong. But wait, knowing the reason behind this, you will probably say that this is a very intelligent and important step.
Its straightforward and only purpose is – End the ‘game’ of brokers and big property dealers before the start.
Understand the whole ‘game’
- What happens?: Whenever the government is an announcement of a major project (such as airport or township), it gets some big property dealers and brokers.
- What do they do?: They immediately buy their land from innocent farmers.
- what happens then?: When the government announces land acquisition and gives good compensation, all this fat money goes into the vault of those brokers instead of going into the pockets of the farmers.
To prevent this loot, the government has put a ‘lock’ on the purchase and sale of land here before the official announcement of the project, so that when the compensation is distributed, its direct and full benefit will be given to more than 18,000 farmers who have this land.
So what is going to be made here?
This is not a small project. A full new and smart city is going to settle here, which has been named ‘Satellite Township’. Uttar Pradesh Expressway will settle here under the supervision of Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA):
- New industries and big factories.
- Schools, colleges and hospitals.
- Modern homes and markets.
This township is about to change the fate of Kannauj and take it to a new era of development. This is not just a government order, but it is a very big and thoughtful decision to protect the interests of planned development and farmers.
