News India Live, Digital Desk: Railway Diwali Gift: As soon as the festival of Diwali comes close, a good news comes for crores of government employees across the country. Especially for Indian Railways employees, for whom Diwali bonus is like a big gift. This year too, the central government has given a big gift to its 10 lakh 90 thousand railway employees before Diwali: they have been approved to give productiveness linked bonus (PLB) equal to 78 days salary. This news has not only brought a smile on the faces of the employees, but it is also expected to make the festivals bright in the market.
How much money will you get and who will benefit?
The Union Cabinet has flagged off this bonus payment of Rs 1,866 crore for railway employees on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. This means that each eligible non-gazetted employee can get a bonus of up to Rs 17,951. This bonus will be given to those employees who are engaged in everyday work of the railway and improve the efficiency and performance of the railway with their hard work. These include Track Maintener, Loco Pilot, Train Manager (Guard), Station Master, Supervisor, Technician, Pointsman and other group ‘C’ and ‘D’ staff. Officials do not get this bonus, but they can be given financial assistance in other ways.
This bonus is given to identify the hard work of employees and their contribution in increasing the capacity of the railway. Last year too, about 11 lakh employees got this bonus, which increased their morale.
What will be the effect on the economy and market?
This decision has come at a time when the festive season is in full swing and the market is expected to increase bright. Experts believe that when employees get bonus, they spend more money on shopping, which increases demand in the market. This will directly benefit traders and industries.
This year, GST rates have also been cut recently on many essential goods, which will further increase customers’ spending. Railway employees are a large number of consumers in urban and semi-urban areas. This additional income found in the form of bonus will promote the buyer related to household items, clothes, electronics and other festival, which will strengthen retail sales and will also speed up the economy. This step will not only double the happiness of Diwali of employees and their families, but will also strengthen the economic activities of the country.
