Karnataka Congress Crisis: Ever since the Congress government was formed in Karnataka in May 2023, two different centers of power are clearly visible there. The political tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has now reached a new turn. According to the big news coming from the political circles of Delhi, the Congress high command has suddenly called these two prominent leaders of Karnataka to Delhi. Today i.e. on Tuesday, a very important meeting of these two leaders is going to be held with the top leadership of the party in Delhi, on which the eyes of the entire country are fixed.
In fact, when Congress got a huge majority in Karnataka in 2023, it was raised loudly internally that the formula for the Chief Minister in the state has been fixed for two and a half years. Although the Congress high command never gave any official statement on this issue, supporters of both the leaders have been raising the demand from time to time to make their leader the Chief Minister for full 5 years.
Speculations intensified as soon as the two and a half year term was completed
Ever since the completion of the two and a half year tenure of the Karnataka government, discussions about changing the Chief Minister in the state had gained momentum. In the last 18 months, ministers and MLAs from DK Shivakumar’s camp have many times claimed that the time has come and soon the command will be in the hands of Shivakumar. But on the other hand, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah always rejected these discussions and clearly said that he will remain on the post of Chief Minister for the full 5 years.
If Congress insiders are to be believed, former party president Rahul Gandhi does not want to take any big risk at the moment. Siddaramaiah is considered a very big and strong leader of the backward class ‘AHINDA’ alliance in the state, removing him from the post could mean angering a large vote bank. On the other hand, DK Shivakumar, the most prominent leader of the Vokkaliga community, has never hidden his ambition to become the Chief Minister.
Congress, happy with the victory in the South, is now in a mood to end the discord.
Congress’s morale is very high after the spectacular victory of Congress in Kerala in the recently held assembly elections and the return to power in Tamil Nadu under the leadership of TVK after almost 59 years. It seems that the party is now in a mood to permanently settle this infighting that has been going on for years in its strongest fort in South India i.e. Karnataka. This is the reason why both the leaders have been called to Delhi to sit face to face and talk. Party sources say that within the next two to three days the ongoing suspense regarding the post of Chief Minister of Karnataka may be completely cleared.
What did Siddaramaiah and DK Shivkumar say about the Delhi tour?
When journalists questioned Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday about this high-profile meeting, he said that he has been called to Delhi, but he has no information about the main agenda of the meeting. He told that the party’s Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal had called him and given him the time and date of the meeting at 11 am on Tuesday. When he was asked about the rumors of change of leadership, he smiled and said that political speculations always happen.
On the other hand, Deputy CM DK Shivkumar had also left for Delhi on Monday itself. In a brief conversation with the media, he only said that some special and special political circumstances have arisen due to which he has to go to Delhi.
Not only CM post, these big issues will also be approved
Even though there are heated discussions in the political circles regarding the Chief Minister’s chair, Karnataka Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala has described this entire meeting as an organizational discussion. Surjewala said that notification for Rajya Sabha elections has been issued in the state, in connection with which strategic talks are going on continuously within the party. He appealed to the media not to make any kind of false speculations and completely rejected all other rumours.
When Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge was asked a direct question on this entire matter, he gave a very polite answer and said that I cannot comment on this topic right now, only Rahul ji will talk about it. Now it will be very interesting to see which side of the political camel of Karnataka will sit after this meeting to be held at 11 am today.
