There is big news for Aadhar card holders. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced several important changes related to Aadhaar in 2025, which will impact more than one billion people in the country.

Increase in fees from October 1

The Unique Identification Authority of India has increased the fee for Aadhaar update from October 1, 2025. Now if you want to change information like name, address, date of birth or mobile number, you will have to pay Rs 75 (earlier this fee was Rs 50). At the same time, for biometric update (fingerprint, iris or photo), now Rs 125 will have to be paid, which was earlier Rs 100. These new duty rates will remain in effect till 2028. UIDAI says that these changes have been made keeping in mind the quality of service and technological improvements.

Biometric update for children now free

UIDAI has given relief to children. Now fingerprint and iris scan updates for children aged 7 to 15 years will be completely free. Earlier, fees had to be paid for this also. Officials say that children’s faces and fingerprints keep changing from time to time, so this update is necessary. Schools have also been asked to help in this process so that the Aadhaar card of any child does not become inactive.

New document list and strict rules

In July 2025, UIDAI has released a new list of documents required for Aadhaar update and new registration. Now, uniform and clear rules have been set for all Indian citizens, NRIs, OCI cardholders and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs). UIDAI has also clarified that a person can have only one Aadhaar number. If anyone is found to have a duplicate Aadhaar, action can be taken.

will now be charged

UIDAI had given free online update facility to the people till June 14, 2025. But now this deadline has ended. Now a fixed fee will have to be paid for any kind of update. Experts say that in future the free update facility may be available again for a limited period, so keep an eye on the UIDAI website.

Big change from November 1

UIDAI will launch a new digital update system from November 1, 2025. Under this system, Aadhaar cardholders will be able to update information like name, address, date of birth, gender and mobile number completely online, meaning there will be no need to visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra to get every minor mistake corrected. In the new system, automatic verification will be done through the government database. There will be no need to upload documents or do manual verification.

Rural areas will benefit

This scheme of UIDAI will be especially beneficial for the people of villages and small towns, where earlier there used to be long queues to update the information. Now this process can be completed from home through OTP verification through MyAadhaar portal or UIDAI app. However, for biometric updates (fingerprints, iris or photo) one has to visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
