Prominent leader of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and MLA from Mankachar. aminul islam Officially joined Congress on Wednesday. This move of Islam, who was once considered the most trusted confidant of Badruddin Ajmal and the second most powerful leader in the party, is being considered as a big loss for AIUDF.

Changed sides after expulsion from the party

Aminul Islam was expelled from AIUDF for 6 years only last month. He was accused of anti-party activities and controversial statements. Since his expulsion, speculations were rife about his next move. On Wednesday, he chose to side with ‘Haath’ in the presence of senior Congress leaders in Delhi. Congress hopes that with his arrival the party’s position in minority dominated seats will be further strengthened.

Now the contest on Mankachar seat will be interesting

Aminul Islam represents Mankachar assembly constituency. With his joining Congress, there are now possibilities of a triangular contest on this seat. On one side there is the ruling alliance (BJP-AGP), on the other side AIUDF will try to save its existence, while Aminul Islam will now come under the Congress flag to prove his hold.
