Deputy Collector (SDM) Archana Agnihotri has been suspended here on charges of demolishing the house of a disabled person. The action took place when the matter came to the notice of the top officials and caused widespread public outrage. The whole matter came to light when the house of a disabled man in Fatehpur was allegedly demolished in the name of illegal encroachment. The person whose house was demolished was physically disabled and it was his lonely home. Opposition and human rights organizations also raised the issue and demanded strict action against the officials concerned. In view of the seriousness of the case, the state government took immediate cognizance. In a preliminary investigation, the role of SDM Archana Agnihotri was found suspicious, as he was accused of action on his order and did not pay enough attention to the special situation of this disabled person. It was extremely wrong from the rules and human point of view. As a result, Archana Agnihotri was suspended with immediate effect after instructions from the Chief Minister’s Office.
