New Delhi: A new controversy arose in Delhi’s politics on Saturday when Aam Aadmi Party leader and Opposition leader in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, alleged that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s husband Manish Gupta was participating in the official meetings of important departments of the government. On this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reacted sharply and described Atishi’s allegations as politically motivated and derogatory.
Atishi’s charge: not the Chief Minister, the government is running her husband
Atishi, while sharing a picture on X (earlier Twitter), claimed that Manish Gupta attended the meeting with officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Public Works Department (PWD) and Delhi Urban Shelter Reform Board (DUSIB). they wrote,
“Look at this picture carefully. The person who is present in the meeting is the husband of Chief Minister of Delhi.
BJP defend: not illegal to support
Reacting to the allegations of Atishi, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva wrote on X that Rekha Gupta is a hardworking and dedicated leader who has set his journey from student politics to the Chief Minister’s post with his hard work.
She said, “It is unfortunate that Atishi is insulting a female leader despite being a woman herself. To support her husband is neither against the law nor against morality.”
Who is Manish Gupta?
Rekha Gupta’s husband Manish Gupta is a businessman by profession. According to the affidavit given to the Election Commission, his firm is named Nikunj Enterprises and is also working as an agency associate in Kotak Life Insurance.
Rekha Gupta publicly appreciated her husband’s contribution after becoming the Chief Minister. He had said that Manish Gupta has supported him at every step in his political journey. In an interview, he clearly said, “Yes, he has done a lot for me. I could not reach here without her help.”
