Asked for cough syrup to get drunk, doctor refused, throat slit in the middle of the road:

News India Live, Digital Desk: A horrifying news has come out from Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi that puts humanity to shame, which has spread panic in the entire area. In Ranchi’s Budhamu area, some drunken youth tried to kill a doctor just because he refused to give them cough syrup without a prescription. The incident was so horrific that the attackers slit the doctor’s throat with a sharp weapon.

What is this heartbreaking incident?

This incident happened with Dr. Santanu Kumar Mahato posted at Budhmu CHC. Doctor Saheb was returning to his home in Murupiri village after finishing his duty. On the way, he had opened his own private clinic near Budh Bazar, where he used to see patients.

At around 8:30 pm on Monday night, when he was in his clinic, three-four drunk youths came there and threatened him. He asked the doctor for cough syrup containing codeine. Actually, today’s youth are using this type of cough syrup for intoxication, hence selling them without doctor’s prescription is prohibited. When Dr. Mahato flatly refused to give him the syrup, he left, abusing him and threatening to kill him.

When Doctor Saheb closed his clinic at around 9:30 pm and left for home on his motorcycle, the same youth surrounded him at a deserted place further ahead. They threw the doctor off the bike and then attacked him fatally on his neck with a sharp weapon (knife), seriously injuring him. After the attack, the criminals fled from the spot, thinking him dead.

When passers-by saw the doctor lying on the road in a pool of blood, they immediately informed the police and his family. He was immediately admitted to Medanta Hospital in Ranchi, where his condition still remains critical.

After this incident, there is an atmosphere of anger and fear among the doctors of the entire area. He has appealed for security, demanding the arrest of the accused as soon as possible. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police have registered an FIR against unknown criminals and are conducting raids in search of them. This incident is a serious indication of how the increasing trend of drug addiction is making the youth violent and inhuman.
