‘Myyosne’, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh, was recently traveling to Shanghai Airport in China. We all know what tension exists between China and India regarding Arunachal. At the airport, Chinese officials harassed him for hours regarding his Indian passport and documents.
A lonely girl, in a foreign country and sharp questions from the police. She was scared, wondering whether she would be able to return home or not. When he did not see any hope in that atmosphere of fear, he appealed to the people of his country for help online.

When Mayosne shared his experience, it should have been that we Indians would have stood with him. But exactly the opposite happened. Many social media trolls started making lewd comments about her looks and features. Some called him ‘Chinese’ while others raised questions on his Indian citizenship.

His message is clear that it is not just the army that fights on the borders, but inside the country we also have to support each other. Teasing the people of North-East India by calling them ‘Chinki’ or ‘Chinese’ is not just a joke, it makes them strangers in their own country.
