Kanpur, 09 January: The district administration has intensified relief operations amid cold wave and bone-chilling cold in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. In Tehsil Sadar area, a special campaign was run till late night and arrangements were made to save the needy people living in the open on the roadside from the cold. Administrative teams reached those areas of the city where the impact of cold was being seen the most. This information was given late night by Joint Magistrate and Sub-District Magistrate Sadar Anubhav Singh.

Joint Magistrate and Sub-District Magistrate Sadar Anubhav Singh said that under the leadership of Tehsildar Sadar Vinay Kumar Dwivedi, the joint team of Revenue Department and Municipal Corporation directly communicated with the people camping near major intersections, bus stands and railway stations. Blankets were distributed on the spot and people sleeping in the open were taken to nearby night shelters and provided safe shelter. At many places, the team convinced people and stopped them from staying in the open.

The Sub-Collector said that under the campaign, a new technical initiative has also been taken in the city. Stickers containing Q-R codes have been pasted at major public places. On scanning these, the location of the night shelters of the concerned area, the facilities available there and the mobile number of the caretaker are becoming available on a single screen. With this, travelers, migrants, students and common citizens will be able to get immediate information about night shelters.

SDM Sadar Anubhav Singh said that the safety of people living in the open during the cold wave is the primary responsibility of the administration. He said that the capacity of night shelters, cleanliness, provision of blankets and heaters are being continuously monitored and this campaign will continue during the winter period.
