Some amendments can be made to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which came into force from January 2025 in Uttarakhand. After the implementation of the new law, some practical challenges have come up, for which the government level is being reconsidered at the government level.
Important decisions can be taken on this in a high -level meeting to be held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary. The State Home Department has completed preparations in this regard.
Potential point of amendment
1. Registration of transgender and homosexual marriage
The current UCC has no clear provision for registration of transgender and gay marriage. Now new rules can be added to this.
2. Marriage of foreign national
The Aadhaar card for marriage registration is becoming a hindrance in the cases of foreign nationals. Measures to simplify it are being considered.
3. Compulsory information of police in live-in relationship
Under the new law, it has been made mandatory to inform the police in the live-in relationship, whereas in normal marriage. Many organizations and political parties are objecting to this provision.

Government preparation
The High Power Committee (HPC) constituted by the state government is churning on these issues. Apart from this, proposals such as marriage registration and divorce-dissection process are also being considered.
Additional Secretary Home Nivedita Kukreti said that the practical problems faced in the implementation of UCC are being tested. There will be a high -level meeting in this regard soon, in which the amendment will be decided.
