News India Live, Digital Desk: Tata Group’s Air India has made a significant security improvement in its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The company has replaced the air data in these aircraft after a special instruction from the Boeing Company, a cockpit module called the Air Data Interestive Reference Unit (Adiru). The step has been taken to ensure safe flights of the aircraft and uninterrupted security of passengers.
Adiru is a highly important cockpit module, which provides accurate information to the aircraft regarding its speed and height. Boeing issued this instruction after some incidents including the 2013 Ethiopian Airlines accident and recently 2024 Latam Airlines (Chile) accident. In these incidents, the aircraft had a challenge to understand important readings such as speed and height for pilots, causing unstable flight and unwanted aerial maneuvers conditions for pilots.
Air India currently has a fleet of 27 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Boeing, in its guideline, warned the companies concerned that the malfunction of Adruu could provide misinformation of sudden speed and height changes, causing the crew confusing.
An official has informed that Air India received this guideline from Boeing at the end of March-April and has changed the necessary modules in all its concerned Dreamliner aircraft. The company ensured this careful measures long before the prescribed compulsory inspection and change schedule, so that there is no risk for the safety of their aircraft. This action reflects Air India’s commitment to global aviation safety standards.
