News India Live, Digital Desk: A trainee aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, causing panic in the area. Fortunately, the trainee pilot on board the plane saved his life by jumping with the help of a parachute just before the crash. The plane fell in a field and caught fire.
What is the whole matter?
This accident happened near Tambaram Air Force Station located on the outskirts of Chennai. The Air Force’s ‘Kiran’ trainer aircraft was on its routine training flight. Shortly after takeoff, the plane experienced a technical fault. When the trainee pilot realized that it was no longer possible to control the plane, he ejected without wasting time and landed safely on the ground using a parachute.
Within no time the plane turned into a ball of fire and crashed in a nearby field. As soon as information about the incident was received, local police and Air Force officials immediately reached the spot. Fire engines brought the fire in the plane under control.
Pilot completely safe
Air Force officials have said that the trainee pilot is completely safe and has suffered minor injuries. He has been admitted to the nearby military hospital for treatment. The pilot’s intelligence and timely decisions averted a major loss of life. The area where the plane fell was close to a residential area. If the plane had fallen on houses instead of in the fields, a major accident could have occurred.
Court of Inquiry orders
The Indian Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry to investigate this accident. The investigation team will try to find out what kind of technical fault occurred in the plane, due to which this accident occurred. ‘Kiran’ trainer aircraft have been used in the Air Force to provide initial training to pilots, although now they are gradually being removed from service. This incident has once again raised questions on the safety of these aging aircraft.
