The glory of Kedarnath Dham is not limited only to the main Jyotirlinga, but the divine ponds located around the temple are also a major center of faith for the devotees. The most prominent among these are ‘Udak Kund’ And ‘Amrit Kund’. According to religious beliefs, the water of these ponds has such power that it can liberate humans from the cycle of birth and death.
Udak Kund: Gate of salvation
In the southern part of Kedarnath temple, just 100 meters from the temple complex. Udak Kund Is situated.
Religious significance: According to Skanda Purana, the water of this pond is considered extremely sacred. It is believed that if a few drops of water from this pond are put in the mouth of a person at the time of his death, then that soul directly reaches Shivalok and does not have to be born again.
legacy: Devotees fill the water of this pond in bottles and take it home with them. This holy water is also used in the special anointment done in the temple.
Amrit Kund: Source of freedom from diseases

Retus and the mystery of Hans Kund
Apart from these two major ponds, there are some other mysterious ponds in Kedarnath:
Retas Kund: This pond is known for its amazing phenomenon. It is said that when ‘Om Namah Shivay’ is chanted here, bubbles start rising in the water automatically. It is believed that this place was created by the tears of Goddess Rati after Kamadeva was burnt to ashes.
Hans Kund: Here the offering of ancestors and immersion of bones has special significance. It is said that here Lord Brahma had taken the form of a swan.

Uttarakhand government has imposed some strict rules for Char Dham Yatra 2026:
Mandatory Registration: to travel this year Aadhar card Has been made mandatory. Other IDs will not be accepted.
Philosophy Rules: Taking photographs or making videos is strictly prohibited inside the temple premises. Besides, there is a ban on touching the idols in the sanctum sanctorum.
