Aadhaar Card Update: The biggest change till date is going to happen in Aadhaar Card, which has become the most important identity card for every Indian. The Central Government and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) are preparing to implement a system that will soon remove your address or date of birth from your Aadhaar card. In the coming days the format of Aadhar card will change completely. Only your photo and a QR code will be visible.

Details will be annihilated to protect personal information

The main reason for this change is the protection of your and our privacy. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, while revealing the scheme, said that this step is being taken to prevent misuse of personal data. It is often seen that all the information (like address, father’s name and date of birth) is clearly printed on the card. People easily mistake this printed information for “real” information and give photocopies to hotels, SIM card vendors or event organisers.

When such sensitive information moves around on paper, the risk of its misuse increases. To deal with this threat, UIDAI has decided to store the information digitally, inside the QR code, instead of the information printed on the card.

Bhuvnesh Kumar says, “If the details are printed on the card, people will consider it a document and it will continue to be misused. So, in future there should be only a photo and a QR code.”

Rules will change for hotels and managers

We Indians have a habit that wherever identity card is asked, we give a photocopy of our Aadhar card. Be it checking into a hotel or attending an event, this “photocopy culture” is about to end.

The CEO of UIDAI has announced that a new rule may come into effect in December. The purpose of this rule is to prevent offline verification. After the implementation of the new rule, Aadhaar will not be used as a physical document. Its verification can be done online only through a number or QR code. The direct benefit of this will be that no one will be able to copy your identity, because without online verification it will become invalid.

Entry of new “Super App”

Not just the card, the Aadhaar app on your mobile phone is also going to change. UIDAI has informed banks, financial technology companies and other stakeholders that the existing mAadhaar app will be replaced soon. A completely new app will be launched in its place.

This new app is being developed under the strict rules of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act) and will be fully implemented over the next 18 months. This new app will have many hi-tech features which will prove to be very beneficial for the common man.

Now the question arises: If the address is not on the card, how will the verification be done? The answer is: technology. Facial verification will play an important role in the new system. The process will be something like this.

1. The Aadhaar holder will show his/her QR code in front of the verifier scanner (OVSE scanner).
2. The system will immediately ask for face authentication.
3. As soon as your face is scanned, it will be confirmed that the Aadhaar card holder himself is there.

This will not only verify your identity, but will also make age verification more accurate. This means that minors will no longer be able to enter places designated for adults using fake identification cards. UIDAI will soon start integrating this new technology.
