
The digital payment revolution in India has achieved another feat. During March 2025, there was a transaction of Rs 24.77 lakh crore through UPI.
This is the highest number of payments made through UPI in a month so far. According to data released by the National Payment Corporation of India, there has been a sharp increase in UPI transactions. On an average, a transaction of Rs 20 lakh crore has been done every month during the last 11 months. The amount of UPI transactions has increased by 25 percent this year as compared to March 2024 on a year-on-year basis. If you compare the number of transactions, it has increased by 36 percent. A total of 18.3 billion transactions were done during the month of March.
Given the success of UPI, it would not be wrong to say that India will soon set a new global standard in digital payments. The figure is likely to touch new heights in the coming months due to continuous efforts being made by the government, NPCI and Fintech companies.
Nice quarterly performance
A total of Rs 70.2 lakh crore transactions were done during the quarter of January to March 2025. This amount is 24 percent higher than transactions made during this three -month period in 2024.
Average daily transaction
The average daily transaction in March 2025 was Rs 79,903 crore. This average was 1.9 percent higher than the average of February. It has increased by 2.6 percent compared to the average number of UPI transactions.
Average price per transaction
The average price of UPI transactions has been Rs 1353.6. This shows that even though people are now transacting small amounts, the number of UPI transactions done by them has increased.
