Mumbai – BJP’s Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and 53 others including a Chinese factory director in Maharashtra government have been accused of cheating farmers about Rs 15 lakh by using fake documents. A case has been registered for receiving a loan of nine crore.
In this regard, an official said that a case was registered at Loni police station in Ahilyanagar district after the order of the Rehta court. The accused include Padmashri Vikhe Patil Cooperative Sugar Mill’s then Chairman and Director, Union Bank of India and Bank of India officials.
The complaint in this regard was lodged by Balasaheb Vikhe, a sugarcane farmer and a member of the cooperative sugar mill. According to the complaint, irregularities occurred in 2004 when the then chairman and directors of the sugar mill allegedly made a loan proposal using fake documents in the name of the farmers who were its members. With the help of bank officials, he allegedly withdrawn 25 lakh rupees. A total of about nine crore rupees were obtained by borrowing Rs 3.11 crore and Rs 5.74 crore.
However, the loan amount was never deposited in the name of the farmers in whose name the loan proposals were submitted. The complaint states that the sugar mill officials and bank employees withdrew money at their request. The accused also took advantage of the government’s agricultural loan waiver scheme allegedly.
Giving detailed information, the officials said that the magistrate court, while hearing a petition filed under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, directed the police to initiate action.
