Ethanol car- Car and bike drivers may soon get rid of expensive petrol and diesel. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari himself has announced this. The Union Minister has said that Indian companies have started manufacturing cars and bikes running on 100 percent ethanol. Soon the common man will start getting cars and bikes with zero petrol-diesel consumption. Gadkari even said that Tata and Suzuki have started manufacturing such vehicles.

Nitin Gadkari has said that Indian auto companies will soon produce 100 per cent ethanol-powered cars and two-wheelers in the country. His statement comes at a time when automakers are working on flex-fuel technology, which allows a car to run on both petrol and ethanol.

The Union minister on Monday arrived at Parliament in a car powered by a flex-fuel engine. According to ANI, Gadkari said it is the world's first vehicle with a flex engine and complies with Euro 6 emission norms. “It gives net zero emissions. Runs on ethanol produced from sugarcane juice, molasses and corn.

Toyota had earlier introduced the flex-fuel propelled version of the Innova Highcross in India in August 2023. Which is yet to be made available for mass sale in the country. However, it was a technology demonstration that showcased the Japanese automaker's ability to build a flex-fuel vehicle. This MPV claims to be able to cover 40 percent of its total distance on ethanol and the remaining 60 percent on electric when the petrol engine is turned off.

Recently, Toyota announced that it will set up a plant in India to produce flex-fuel cars locally. The manufacturing facility will be set up in Aurangabad, Maharashtra at an investment of Rs 20,000 crore. Gadkari revealed that Tata Motors and Suzuki are also working on 100 per cent ethanol or flex-fuel engine vehicles.

Not only in the passenger vehicle segment, but also in the Indian two-wheeler market, auto companies like Bajaj Auto, TVS and Hero MotoCorp are making motorcycles and scooters powered by flex-fuel engines.

Gadkari said, “Other manufacturers are also working on introducing flex engines. Like petrol pumps, our farmers will now have ethanol pumps. We have imports worth Rs 16 lakh crore. Such vehicles will reduce pollution, save costs and benefit farmers.” The vehicle runs on 100% ethanol…”
