Indian spices: The central government has clarified its position several times regarding the ban on Indian spices in Singapore and Hong Kong. Once again the government has reacted on this matter in the Rajya Sabha. Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel said, 'There is no ban on Indian spices in Singapore and Hong Kong.'
What did Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel say?
Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel said in Rajya Sabha, “Certain spice blends exported from India were recalled by the food safety authorities in Hong Kong and Singapore due to the presence of ethylene oxide (ETO) in excess of the permissible limit. The Spices Board, under the administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has taken several measures to meet the individual ETO limits of the importing country. It prescribes mandatory pre-shipment testing of spices to be exported and guidelines to be followed by exporters for procurement, packing, storage and transportation of raw materials.”
Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel said, 'FSSAI has conducted national level surveillance of milk and milk products in 2011, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023. Milk surveillance reports of surveys conducted in 2018, 2020 and 2022 are available in the public domain www.fssai.gov.in/cms/national-surveys.php. FSSAI has deployed Food Safety on Wheels in states and union territories for screening and rapid testing of milk and milk products. There is a plan to conduct surveillance of spices across India in 2022.'
