Rupee falls to new low of 83.86 amid slowdown in stock market

MUMBAI: The rupee hit a new low in the Mumbai currency market today as the dollar strengthened against the rupee. The currency market also witnessed a sharp fall as the Mumbai stock market sounded a sharp decline today. The dollar price after opening at Rs 83.78 this morning, rose to a low of Rs 83.75-83.76, then hit a high of Rs 83.86 and finally closed at Rs 83.85.

Market experts were saying that such high prices of the dollar were never seen before. After the currency market closed, the price of the dollar in the private sector increased further and crossed Rs 84 and reached Rs 84.10 to Rs 84.11.

In the Mumbai market, on July 19, 2022, the price of dollar against rupee went above Rs 80 for the first time and now it has reached close to Rs 84. In the world market, the currencies of Japan and China saw a rise against the dollar.

Meanwhile, the global dollar index stood at 102.57 against various major currencies in the world market today. There was chaos in various global markets today due to the news of recession in America.

Meanwhile, the British pound stood at 106.87 in the Mumbai market. The European currency Euro was quoted at 91.84. The Japanese currency rose 3.07 percent against the rupee today, while the Chinese currency was indicated to be in a positive range of 0.67 to 0.68 percent.
