Firozabad, 4 August (HS). A Mainpuri youth who was returning with his maternal uncle's son carrying a Kanwar on Sunday in Jasrana police station area, fell into the canal to wash his hands and drowned. Divers and police are busy searching for him.
The Kanwariyas were going to Guraon Sirsaganj with Ganga water from Soron. Pradeep Kumar (23), son of Satyendra Pal, resident of Gadhiya Pejpura Ghiroor Mainpuri was also among these Kanwariyas. He had gone to Guraon in Sirsaganj with his maternal uncle's son Tinku and around 25 friends to get Kanwad. All the Kanwariyas reached Soron from Guraon via Ghiroor, Auncha, Sakiet, Etah in an auto. From here, after filling 101 kg of Ganga water in pots, they were going on foot via Etah Jasrana road to Guraon in Sirsaganj.
On Sunday, many Kanwariyas went to defecate at Patikara canal located at Padham in Jasrana. During this time Pradeep Kumar took soil from the canal bank and bent down to wash his hands in the canal and fell. After this he started drowning. There was a lot of screaming among the Kanwariyas when Pradeep drowned. The police team deployed nearby tried to save Pradeep, but was unsuccessful. Now divers are being asked to search for Pradeep. Till late evening, Kanwariyas and Pradeep's family members were engaged in searching around Patikara canal, no trace of him could be found till the time of writing the news.
