Cloudburst in Shimla, Kullu and Mandi of Himachal Pradesh, 22 people missing

Shimla, 01 August (HS). Heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh at night have wreaked havoc. Cloudburst has caused devastation in the upper parts of Shimla, Kullu and Mandi districts. About 22 people are reported missing due to floods and landslides in these districts.

Flood caused by cloudburst at midnight near the hydro project in Samej Khad in Jhakri area of ​​Rampur subdivision of Shimla district, the state capital, wreaked havoc and 19 people went missing. Similarly, in Tikkan Thaltu Kod of Chohar Valley of Mandi district, floods after heavy rains damaged many houses and about three people who ran towards the forest to save themselves are reported to be missing.

Mandi District Magistrate Apurva Devgan has left for relief and rescue operations. However, due to heavy rains, the roads have also been blocked. There has been a huge loss of life and property due to cloudburst in Shimla's Rampur. The flood in Samej Khad last night brought devastation in the surrounding villages. After receiving information about the cloudburst early Thursday morning, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap and Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi have also left. The SDRF team is also reaching the spot.

Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said that 19 people are reported missing from the area affected by the cloudburst. SDM Rampur Nishant Tomar is reaching the spot. Due to the road being closed at many places, they had to walk two kilometers with equipment. Anupam Kashyap said that relief work has been started immediately. ITBP, Special Home Guard contingent has also been included in the rescue team. He said that all the teams are working together in the rescue operations. All basic facilities including ambulances have been included in the rescue operation. He said that a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner in which police, home guard, fire brigade, Sunni Dam Management and other departments have been included. Flood due to cloudburst in Shrikhand hills, devastation in Kullu district as well The area where floods caused devastation in Rampur area of ​​Shimla is adjacent to Kullu district. According to the information, the fierce flood in Kurpan, Samej and Ganvi Khad due to cloudburst in Shrikhand hills brought devastation. Nearly two dozen houses and several vehicles are also reported to have been washed away. According to information, school buildings and dispensaries were also washed away in the flood.

The ravine flowing alongside Ganvi in ​​Shimla district and Bagipul bazaar in Kullu district also caused havoc and many buildings were damaged. Due to cloudburst near Nain Sarovar on the Shrikhand hills, the flow of water increased in three khads i.e. small rivers which took the form of floods after coming down. Malana Project Dam 2 has also been damaged due to the flood.

Heavy rain alert till August 5

The Meteorological Department has also warned of heavy to very heavy rain in some parts of the state in the next 24 hours. A yellow alert for rain has been issued in the state till August 5. According to the department, since the onset of monsoon on June 27, the state has received 36 percent less rain than normal. Lahaul-Spiti has received 79 percent less rain than normal, Kinnaur 49 percent, Una 47 percent, Chamba 45 percent, Hamirpur 41 percent, Sirmaur 44 percent, Solan 43 percent, Bilaspur and Kullu 31 percent, Kangra 15 percent, Mandi 17 percent and Shimla 14 percent less rain.

114 houses damaged due to rain during monsoon season

According to the State Emergency Operations Center, 114 houses have been damaged due to rain and landslides during the monsoon season in the state. Out of these, 19 houses were completely destroyed, while 95 houses were partially damaged. Apart from this, five shops and 87 cattle sheds also collapsed. Property worth 433 crores has been damaged in the monsoon season in the state. In this, the Public Works Department has suffered a loss of 189 crores. In the last one month, 131 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state. In this, 66 people lost their lives in road accidents. While 65 deaths have occurred due to slipping from height, drowning, flowing, electric shock and snake bite.
