Punjab Weather Update: There was no heavy rainfall in Punjab on Wednesday despite a yellow alert in 18 districts. But after rain in some districts, the average temperature of the state has dropped by 2.9 degrees. Monsoon is slow in the state. The biggest reason for this is the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. Monsoon winds have been affected by the low pressure and its effect is also being seen on the western disturbance.
In Punjab, SAS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, SBS Nagar, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar and Gurdaspur are likely to receive rain till 9 am. A yellow alert has been issued in 9 districts of Punjab today, monsoon winds from Bengal and western disturbances are likely to become active.
According to this, light to moderate rain is expected in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and SAS Nagar. Along with this, Sawan is going to start from 22nd July. It is estimated that monsoon rains will be seen in the state after 22nd July.
Punjab has received 38 per cent less rainfall this season so far. In the rainy season which started on June 1, till July 17, 87.5 mm of rain has already fallen, whereas the normal rainfall should be 140.7 mm.
So far, only 4 districts of Punjab, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Mansa and Sangrur have received normal rainfall. According to the Meteorological Department, 20% less rainfall is considered normal. Amritsar received 19% less rainfall while Tarn Taran received 22% more rainfall than normal. Mansa received 21% more rainfall and Sangrur received 13% more rainfall. Rest of Punjab has recorded less rainfall than normal. Fatehgarh Sahib received 77% less rainfall and Hoshiarpur received 76% less rainfall.
