News India Live, Digital Desk: The decades-old friendship between India and Russia has now entered a new era that has created a stir in global strategic corridors. A very important defense agreement (Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Agreement) has been agreed between the two countries. Under this agreement, now the armies of India and Russia will be able to use logistics facilities for each other’s military bases, warships and aircraft. This step will not only strengthen India’s self-reliance in the defense sector, but will also expand India’s reach from the Indian Ocean to the Arctic.

New revolution in defense sector: What is this ‘logistics’ agreement?

In simple words, after this agreement, the Indian Navy and Air Force will get the facility to refuel, repair and collect supplies (food and other materials) at Russian military bases and ports. The same facility will be available to the Russian Army in India. Experts believe that this agreement is on the lines of the ‘LEMOA’ agreement made with America, which further strengthens India’s strategic autonomy.

Big strong message for China and Pakistan

This agreement is going to have far reaching consequences. This synergy between Russia’s presence in the North and India’s strong position in the South will directly curb China’s expansionist policies. Now Indian warships will be able to use Russian ports, thereby strengthening India’s presence in the Arctic region and the Northern Sea Routes. This is also a big blow for Pakistan, because Russia has made it clear that India is its most reliable defense partner.

This step will prove to be a game changer in case of war.

According to experts, in modern wars, not only the number of weapons matters, but the ease of logistics and supply chain is most important. This agreement will give the Indian Army the ability to remain deployed in remote areas for a long period. If any military crisis arises in future, India will get the benefit of Russia’s huge infrastructure, which makes India invincible from strategic point of view.

New example of friendship and step towards global power

The result of continuously increasing communication between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin is that both the countries have come closer to each other despite the complex global circumstances. This deal shows that India is capable of forming strategic partnerships as per its needs instead of depending on any one group. This agreement will also prove helpful in achieving the goals of ‘Make in India’ and defense exports.
