Guwahati, July 10 (HS). The new Road Over Bridge (ROB) constructed by Northeast Frontier Railway at Tetelia Station Yard has been opened for public use. This Road Over Bridge (No. 59A) has been constructed by NFR at a total cost of Rs 72 crore.
CPRO of NFR, Sabyasachi Dey today informed that the existing road at level crossing gate no. ST-22 is situated on State PWD road connecting Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary through Tetelia Station Yard. The closure of level crossing gate during the movement of trains in both directions or movement of trains connecting Tetelia-Burnihat section and Star Cement Sidingla causes heavy traffic disruption. The newly constructed Road Over Bridge is constructed in place of level crossing gate no. ST-22 at Tetelia Station Yard. Due to congestion of road traffic, the need for construction of Road Over Bridge in place of level crossing gate ST-22 was felt. This gate was a very busy gate with 88,818 TVUs. Necessary approval has been obtained from District Authority, Government of Assam for closure of level crossing gate no. ST-22 and it will be closed from 10th July, 2024.
The total length of the newly constructed Road Over Bridge is 442.58 m with Bowstring Arch Steel Girder of 62 m length. The height of Bowstring Arch Steel Girder is 16.754 m and weight is 514 MT. This new Road Over Bridge has newly constructed 2 (two) lane road of 7.50 m width connecting NH 37 and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary viaduct on both sides. Two staircases have been provided on both sides of Bowstring Girder for pedestrians to cross the railway track safely.
This new Road Over Bridge will not only help in easy evacuation of people and vehicles during rush hours but will also prevent commuters from crossing the railway tracks. Also, this ROB will enhance operational efficiency, leading to smooth movement of train as well as road traffic in the region. The entire population of Sonapur as well as Marigaon district will be benefited by this.
