A woman died after a speeding BMW hit a scooter in Worli, Mumbai. The car was being driven by Mihir Shah, son of a Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader. Police suspect that Mihir was drunk at the time of the incident.
The accused is still absconding and the police have issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) as part of the process to trace him. Mihir was taken for treatment after his father Rajesh Shah and driver Rajendra Singh were arrested. It is worth noting that the girlfriend of accused Mihir Shah has also come on the radar of the police investigating this case. The police suspect that the woman tried to hide him after the incident. However, the police have not said anything officially yet.
Accused Mihir Shah is the son of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader Rajesh Shah of Palghar district. Rajesh Shah and his driver Rajendra Singh Bijawat were arrested on Sunday for not cooperating with the police. Police have registered a case under various sections including culpable homicide, negligent driving and destruction of evidence. Provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act have also been applied. Rajesh Shah got bail from the court on Monday. A police officer said that in view of the possibility of Mihir Shah fleeing the country, Mumbai Police has issued LOC against him on Sunday evening and started searching for the accused. Police has formed 6 teams to search for accused Mihir.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured strict action in the hit and run case. On Monday, he said that no one will get any concession during his tenure as Chief Minister. Whoever is found guilty in such a case will not be supported. No matter how rich, influential or official he is of any party or even if he is the son of a representative.
