Dehradun, June 28 (HS). Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Anand Bardhan said in the training program of Agriculture Census Scheme on Friday that the data of agriculture census plays an important role in the formulation of agricultural policies and schemes of our country.

On Friday, a training program for the second and third phase of the State Level Agricultural Census Scheme was organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan at a local hotel in Ladpur.

Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan said that the data of agricultural census is used by various stakeholders for development planning, socio-economic policy making and setting of national priorities. He described this program as in the interest of the development of agriculture and farmers. During the program, he highlighted the importance of agricultural census and emphasized the need for training.

On this occasion, the main objectives of agricultural census such as counting the number and structure of operational status, irrigation and tenancy details including land use and crop pattern, details of land holdings of different sizes including Scheduled Caste/Tribe/Women and objectives related to the pattern of input use in agriculture were discussed. Training for the third and fourth phase of Agricultural Census Scheme was provided in the program, under which field data will be collected through compilation of agricultural census data through Ag Census App.

It was told in the meeting that in the second phase of the Agriculture Census Scheme, data is collected by feeding irrigated and non-irrigated area, information of lease of land and crop pattern through Ag Census App in 20 percent revenue villages of the state. In the third phase of Agriculture Census, information is collected about the number of family members of the farmer, level of education, age and inputs used by the farmer – manure, chemical fertilizers, seeds, medicines, agricultural loan, agricultural equipment etc.

It was told in the meeting that according to Agriculture Census year 2015-16, there are total revenue villages 16674 in the state, total functional landholders are 881305, total functional area is 747319.695 hectares, Scheduled Caste functional landholders are 123800, Scheduled Tribe functional landholders are 28135, female functional landholders are 105124, male functional landholders are 774557, joint holdings are 201318, individual 678363, institutional holdings are 1624.
