Mumbai: In the 2021 case of rape of a six-year-old girl, the Thane district court has sentenced the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The six-year-old girl gave accurate testimony against the accused and helped prove the case against him.
Accused Pandurang Shelar, 47, a native of the village in Diva area of Thane, was convicted by special POCSO court judge Deshmukh and fined Rs. A fine of Rs 5,000 was also imposed. Directed to pay the fine amount as compensation to the victim and asked to refer the case to the District Legal Services Authority for additional compensation.
Now the six-year-old girl testified against the accused and helped prove the case beyond doubt. On January 8, 2021, the accused picked up a girl playing outside the house and took her to his house and raped and threatened her.
An offense under the Indian Penal Code and Atrocities Act as well as POCSO was registered against the accused.
