Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spoke openly to the public at an event in Mysore on Thursday night, recalling his failed 'love story' due to casteism in the society. During a program on inter-caste marriage on the occasion of 'Buddha Purnima', the Chief Minister recalled his college days and narrated old stories. He said, I wanted to do an inter-caste marriage but it did not happen. The girl refused.
The CM further said that when I was studying, I fell in love with a girl. Do not misunderstand this. I thought of marrying that girl but the girl's family and the girl's family also did not agree. So they did not get married. A situation arose that I had to marry a girl of my own caste. I got married within my own caste.
Extending his full support and backing to inter-caste marriages, Siddaramaiah promised that his government will provide all assistance for inter-caste marriages. He lamented that the efforts of many social reformers to create an egalitarian society have not yet borne fruit.
He said that there are only two ways to eradicate the social evil of casteism. One is inter-caste marriage and the other is socio-economic empowerment among all communities. Siddaramaiah said that without socio-economic upliftment, there cannot be social equality in any society.
